Why is no one reporting on this?

It baffles me why no Australian news channels are reporting on the terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

So far 102 people have been killed – no mention of the countless people who have been severely injured, whose lives have been changed forever.

The Indian Mujaheddin terrorists first took over all of the police head quarters – they’re driving police cars, wearing police uniforms. They’ve taken over airports, and hospitals, and nine hotels.

They have been marching into hotels, demanding the room numbers for everyone with a British and American passport, and in some hotels, westerners have been marched down to the lobby, and executed.

People are hiding in their hotel rooms, in bath tubs, under beds, texting their friends for the umpteenth time to let them know that for the minute, they are still alive; desperately hoping not to hear that fateful knock on the door. Hotel employees are hiding people in cupboards in reception and around hotels, sneaking people out when it’s “safe.”

- But when the terrorists look like police, who can you trust? It’s not safe inside, it’s not safe outside. There’s nothing to be done, but wait; and hope to god that you and your loved ones live long enough to tell the world what happened.

At the airport, watching Sky news, the only reporting was a scrolling banner of the events, (sport seemed to be the broadcasting priority) careful to distinguish the Australian deaths, from all of the others.

As if somehow it makes a difference. 102 human beings have died today – and the death toll continues to rise.

The attacks have been condemned by the EU and the UN is already working to gather troops to execute an invasion to end the bloodshed – and still, nothing is being reported. Not on SBS, or ABC, or any of the commercial channels.

The Taj hotel is currently burning to the ground. Bombs have been used to disable the railways, and other religious organisations throughout India.

What I want to know is why didn’t anyone see this coming? America and the UK claim to have the best intelligence agencies in the world. Why was nothing done to prevent this? How can a terrorist organisation be more organised than the MI5, MI6, the CIA and FBI combined?

It seems as though this is much closer to home this time. Before, on some level it appeared, at least to me, it was a case of “leave us alone” – but now, an fanatical Islamic minority wants to turn India into a theocratic state.

Before, it seemed as though there was a certain degree of anonymity – planes, bombs – now, they’ve infiltrated all levels of society, and they are looking people in the eye before they execute them.

Guns, knives, chaos.

With every attack the level of fear and intimidation increases.

I can’t see a solution – it’s not going to end well.

But in Australia we wouldn’t know how it would end at all – because no one is bloody reporting on it!

Post Script:

(This is what happens when you lay off journalists – there’s no one out there to go and get the story).
